2018 Winners

ERICK VARGAS

Erick was a two sport star at Elsie Allen. In football, Erick was a 3 year varsity player and 2 year captain.  He did one better in basketball, being a 4 year varsity player and 2 year captain.  In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Erick was chosen to participate in the “Every 15 Minutes” program for Drunk Driving Prevention.  He also is involved in community efforts in support of the Deferred Actions for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  Erick’s basketball coach, who knew Pat Troya well, says the following, “Erick Vargas plays and lives with the heart and courage of Mr.Troya.  Erick is a leader who inspires others to do better.”  Erick finished in the top half of his class and plans to attend Santa Rosa Junior College before transferring to San Diego State to study psychology.

ROSA DELGADO

Rosa starred on the soccer field at Elsie Allen, where she was the captain of the varsity team, as well as a club player for the past 7 years.  She stayed busy off the field as well, as Elsie Allen’s Student Body President, and participated with three academic groups – The EAHS University Center Program, 10,000 Degrees, and the California Scholarship Federation.  Rosa’s English Teacher and Club Advisor at EAHS, Lisa Decarbo, had this to say about Rosa, “She has worked extremely hard during her four years of high school to succeed academically and has proven her worth very good grades, hard work, leadership roles, and a long list of community service.  Rosa finished in the top 5% of her class and will be attending UC Santa Barbara

2017 Winners

LUIS FLORES

Luis had a passion for baseball, which began when he was 8 years old and continued throughout his 4 years at Elsie Allen where he competed on the varsity team.  His passion for baseball extended into his community work where he was a long time volunteer youth baseball coach.  Luis finished in the top of his class at Elsie Allen and plans to continue his baseball playing at the next level, and will play for Santa Rosa Junior College next year.

JAMILETTE ARANGO

A true star both in the classroom and out, Jamilette played 4 years of both badminton and tennis during her time at EAHS.  Being bi-lingual, she also volunteered in the community connecting and educating non-English speakers about services available to them through the city of Santa Rosa.  Jamilette also participated in the California Scholarship Federation, where she served as secretary, and The University Center at Elsie Allen.  One of her advisers at the University Center had this to say, “Jamilette is one of the most hard-working, self directed and motivated students I have ever encountered in my 22 year career”  This showed as Jamilette was the 2017 valedictorian for Elsie Allen High School, as well as the Santa Rosa Teacher’s Association Student of the Year.  Jamilette will be continuing her academic career at UC Berkeley.  

2016 Grantees

sean-greinerSean Greiner – Sean was a three sport star at Elsie Allen High School. He played baseball, basketball and football. He really shined on the diamond where he was a 4-year Varsity letterman for the Lobos. Not only did Sean succeed in athletics but he also carried very high GPA. Along with his academic and athletic endeavors, he was also very active in his community where is logged over 500 hours of community service. Sean is currently a freshman at San Diego State University.


johnathan-torresJonathan Torres – Jonathan was lucky enough to be coached by Mr. Troya his sophomore year in football. Jonathan said that Patrick’s inspirational talks helped him accomplish his goals. Coach Troya told him to “tackle his dreams” …and that is exactly what he is doing. Jonathan is currently enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College with the goal of becoming a constructional engineer. Jonathan was voted the Lobos “most athletic” his senior year.


elidaElida Serrano – Elida was no ordinary student-athlete at Elsie Allen. She was not only a part of the Track and Field and Rugby teams, but she also wrestled on a predominately boys team. This toughness is what is helping her everyday as a freshman at Sonoma State University. Elida is the ultimate team player on the field and in life. She tries to live by the motto “no one gets left behind”. Elida said her school friends and Lobo teammates are like family to her still to this day.


randyRandy Hernandez-Carreno– I guess you can call Randy a “jack of all trades” or in this case “sports”. Randy was on the Track & Field and Cross Country teams at Elsie Allen High School. Randy wasn’t able to run his senior year due to a hip injury. That didn’t slow him down. He kayaked and did indoor rock climbing. Randy was also part of a non-profit group based that advocated for the earth which is something Coach Troya was also was passionate about. Randy is currently a freshman at Santa Ross Junior College. If you are ever roaming around in the Sonoma County hills, you might just see Randy…but look quick, he still runs just as fast as in high school.

2015 Grantees

andreaAndrea Gonzalez – A student athlete in the truest sense, Andrea was a
2 year captain of the varsity girls volleyball team, while taking AP classes throughout her high school career. She also took college level courses at Sonoma State and participated in the Future Educators program. Andrea will attend either UC Santa Barbara or San Diego State University.


FullSizeRender_2Domaniy Keomee – Domaniy was a former student of Pat’s and took his quote of “Champions are made when no one is looking” to heart.

Domaniy played for the Elsie Allen’s basketball team. She will attend Santa Rosa Junior College in the Fall.


CynthiaCynthia Carreno Olivarez – Cynthia was a true leader within Elsie Allen High School. She served as Vice President of the Lobo Unity student group, volunteered to help organize the school’s annual fundraiser, and even stepped in as temporary varsity soccer coach when her original coach quit. She did this all while taking AP classes, as well as classes at Sonoma State University. Cynthia is currently weighing options for colleges next year.


giselleGisell Vargas– Gisell was involved in a wide range of activities at EAHS, including running long distance on the Cross Country team, running as a sprinter on the track team, and being part of the EAHS half marathon team that raised money for a youth organization. Gisell also participated in many student groups including AVID and Lobo Unity. She plans to attend a school in the CSU system next year, where she will study to become a dietician.


alejandraAlejandra Silva – Alejandra excelled in everything she did at Elsie Allen. Athletically, she was captain of the girls varsity soccer team and also was a member of the badminton team. In addition, she was a member of the California Scholarship Foundation, and the Lobo Unity student group. Alejandra is currently deciding on which 4 year university to attend.


SergioSergio Lopez – A varsity football player, Sergio played under Coach Troya and considered Pat a mentor. He turned the passing of his coach into taking on the responsibility of living Pat’s teachings, and he excelled not only in football, but on the varsity baseball team as well. Sergio will be attending Santa Rosa JC in the fall.


joeJoe Hoeup – A star on the court and in the classroom, Joe overcame a devastating injury early in the basketball season to come back to lead EAHS to their first Sonoma County League Basketball Championship as Joe finished with over 1,000 points in his varsity career. Equally as impressive was his performance in the classroom where took on a full load of honors courses. Joe will continue his academic and athletic career as he has accepted an offer to play college basketball in Texas.


Ismael Mondragon – Ismael was a member of both the varsity track and varsity cross country teams and balanced his time on the field with taking Honors classes. Ismael has ambitions in both auto repair and business and will be attending the Universal Technical Institute in the Fall with plans to eventually get an MBA and open a repair shop in Santa Rosa.


manuelManuel Cordova – A former player and student for Coach Troya, Manuel used Pat’s motto of “Go Hard” to lead him to success as a member of the varsity football, wrestling, and Track & Field Teams. Manuel also performed well in school. He will be attending SRJC next year.

2014 Grantees

HarpreetHarpreet Multani – Harpreet played football during his time at Elsie Allen High School playing for Coach Troya, as well as Rugby where he was President of the Elsie Allen Lobo Rugby Club. Harpreet also played trombone in the jazz band (first chair), and was President of the Physics Club. Harpreet finished with a 4.0 GPA. He will attend San Jose State University in the Fall.


LeroyLeroy Lam – Leroy played both football and rugby during his time at EAHS as well as participating in Madrigals – and advanced choir class. Leroy was able to achieve a GPA of 3.91. Leroy will continue his education next year at UC San Diego.


NamNam Nguyen – Nam played tennis for Elsie Allen High School, but much of his time was taken up taking college courses at Sonoma State University. He also served as the president of Interact and the Math & Science Program that he taught every week at Cook Middle School. Nam finished with a 3.94 GPA. Nam will attend Santa Rosa Junior College next year, with plans to transfer to a 4 year school, most likely UCLA.


PART_1402000297862_Image1402000297858-croppedKenneth Altamirano– Kenneth was a captain of the Elsie Allen Football team and shared a very strong bond with “Coach Troya”.
Kenneth overcame much adversity in his life to establish himself as a recognized leader within the Elsie Allen High School community, and earned tremendous amounts of respect from both the students and faculty alike. Kenneth’s ambitious nature will take him next year to The Autonomous University of Guadalajara in Jalisco Mexico where he will study to become a doctor. Upon completion of his medical degree in Mexico, he plans to return to the United States to take his medical boards and specialize in reconstructive surgery


AnabelAnabel Mata – Anabel starred as a volleyball player at Elsie Allen High School, earning MVP of the team, despite only picking up the sport in her junior year. Anabel starred in the classroom as well. Anabel will continue her education next year at her “dream school” of Sacramento State where she will study Psychology with long term ambitions of giving back to the community.


RoseRose Hammock – Rose was a recognized student leader at Elsie Allen High School. She participated in numerous teams, groups and clubs at Elsie Allen High School including Track & Field, Softball, Video Club, Link Crew, and was very involved with paying tribute to her Native American Heritage through the Youth Pomo Dance Group. Rose also volunteered at the Sonoma County YWCA working with young at-risk children. In the fall she will attend Humboldt State University with plans to eventually get a Master’s degree in Social Work.


IMG_4800Jesus Manzo – Jesus played basketball all 4 years at Elsie Allen High School. He has also been involved in charitable works for needy families. Jesus will be attending Santa Rosa Junior College in the Fall.


Untitled-1Ana Morales – Ana played varsity softball at Elsie Allen High School and plans to continue her athletic career into her college years. She also, after a full 6 years of study, earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Ana plans to attend Santa Rosa JC next year.
